Albania is a country in Southeast Europe, on the western edge of the Balkan Peninsula. It stretches along the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, directly across from the heel of Italy.

Albania lies between latitudes 39° and 43° N. Its capital, Tirana, is roughly the same latitude as Naples, Madrid or New York. The country covers about 28,748 km² — a little smaller than Belgium.
