Tirana Airport to Ksamil 2027: Every Way to Get There (and What It Costs)
Bus, car, transfer or flight-plus-ferry — every route from Tirana Airport to Ksamil in 2027, with real journey times, prices and the mistakes to avoid.
Ksamil sits at the very bottom of Albania, 297 km from Tirana International Airport. There is no train, no domestic flight and no direct airport bus. Every option comes down to the same road — and to how much of your day you are willing to spend on it.

Nobody route is "best" — it depends on whether you want the coast afterwards.
Option 1: rent a car (recommended)
Ksamil is the end point of the Albanian Riviera, and the Riviera is the reason to drive. Collecting a car at TIA and driving south lets you stop at Llogara, Dhërmi, Himara, Borsh and Butrint — none of which the bus serves usefully.
Route: TIA → SH2 to Tirana bypass → SH4 south via Fier, Tepelenë and Gjirokastër → Saranda → Ksamil.
Time: 4 h 15 without stops, realistically 5 h with a coffee and fuel stop. Add 90 minutes if you take the coastal SH8 over the Llogara Pass instead — and you should, if it's daylight and you're not exhausted.
Fuel: roughly 33–38 EUR each way in a compact.

Warnings: don't attempt this drive on arrival day if you land after 17:00. The last hour into Saranda is winding, unlit and shared with buses. And book parking — Ksamil village parking is chaotic in August, at 300–700 lek/day.
Option 2: private transfer
The zero-effort option: a driver meets you in arrivals and delivers you to your hotel door.
Price: 180–260 EUR per vehicle (up to 3–4 passengers), 260–330 EUR for a minivan. For a family of four that is 50–65 EUR each — competitive with the bus once you count the time saved.
Booked in advance, always. Ad hoc taxis at TIA will quote 300 EUR+ for the run and are not worth negotiating.
Choose this if you're arriving late, travelling with small children, or not driving in Albania.
Option 3: bus (cheapest)
There is no direct bus from Tirana Airport to Ksamil. You go via Tirana.
Step 1 — airport to Tirana. The Rinas Express airport bus runs to central Tirana every hour, 400 lek (4 EUR), 30–40 minutes. A taxi is 20–25 EUR.
Step 2 — Tirana to Saranda. Buses leave from the South & North Bus Terminal several times daily, mostly early morning (05:00–09:00) and one or two overnight departures. Journey 6–7 hours, 1,500–2,000 lek (15–20 EUR). Buy at the terminal; some operators sell online.
Step 3 — Saranda to Ksamil. Local buses run every 30–45 minutes in summer, 100–150 lek (1–1.50 EUR), 25 minutes. Taxis charge 1,500–2,000 lek.
Total: 7–9 hours and about 20–25 EUR. It works, but only if your flight lands in the morning — the Saranda buses are largely a morning product, and arriving at TIA in the afternoon means overnighting in Tirana.
Option 4: fly into Corfu instead
An underrated hack. Corfu (CFU) has far more low-cost flights from Northern Europe in summer than Tirana does, and the Corfu–Saranda ferry takes 30–90 minutes depending on the boat.
- Ferry: 25–45 EUR one way, 4–7 daily crossings in summer, 1–2 in winter.
- Saranda port to Ksamil: 25 minutes by bus or taxi.
- Passport control both ends; allow an hour.

Catch: you cannot take an Albanian rental car onto the ferry easily, and Greek rentals mostly prohibit entering Albania.
What the drive is actually like
The SH4 inland route is a modern, well-surfaced highway as far as Tepelenë, then a good two-lane road through the Drino valley. It is easy driving. The mountain section around Muzinë has long climbs and slow trucks.
The coastal SH8 alternative — over the Llogara Pass at 1,027 m and down through the Riviera — is one of Europe's great drives, and one of its more demanding: tight hairpins, no barriers in places, and heavy traffic in August. Drive it in daylight, on the way south or north, but not tired.

Suggested split-journey itineraries
Rather than doing 5 hours in one go, most people enjoy the trip more broken up:
Two-day version: TIA → Berat (2 h, overnight) → Gjirokastër (2 h, lunch) → Ksamil (1 h 15).
Riviera version: TIA → Vlorë (2 h 15, lunch) → Llogara Pass → Dhërmi or Himara (overnight) → Borsh → Ksamil (2 h next morning).
Fast version: TIA → coffee at Tepelenë → Ksamil, 5 hours door to door.
Getting around once you're in Ksamil
Ksamil is small and walkable, but the beaches spread over 3 km. A car is useful for Butrint (10 minutes), Saranda (25 minutes) and the Blue Eye (40 minutes). Parking is the pain point in July and August.
Local buses to Saranda run frequently through the summer and thin out sharply in October.
Practical arrival tips
- Withdraw lek at TIA arrivals, declining the ATM's conversion, so you can pay for parking, buses and beach sunbeds. See the currency guide.
- Install an eSIM before you fly — coverage on the SH4 is good, but you'll want maps working from the terminal.
- Fuel up before Tepelenë if you take the mountain road.
- Don't drive the Llogara Pass at night.
- Book August accommodation months ahead — Ksamil sells out.
