Road works and transport changes (2027-05-01 to 2027-05-07)

Kashar–Rrogozhinë highway construction (confirmed)
The Blue Corridor Kashar–Rrogozhinë highway started on a 24-month contract in late 2026, so expect work zones and possible diversions around Kashar and Vaqarr throughout 2027. Specific closure dates are announced by ARRSH shortly before.

Elbasan–Qafë Thanë and Elbasan–Rrogozhinë completion works (confirmed)
Both Corridor VIII roads are scheduled for completion in 2027. Expect lane shifts and slower sections on the routes to Lake Ohrid/North Macedonia and between Elbasan and the coast until they open.

International Workers' Day
Long weekend with heavy domestic travel to the coast. Official public holiday in Albania: banks, public offices and many state museums close; shops and restaurants in tourist areas usually stay open. If it falls on a weekend the government may move the day off — check the official announcement.

Orthodox Easter
Orthodox Easter Monday (3 May) is a public holiday. Midnight services and busy southern towns such as Korçë, Gjirokastër and Berat.
What usually happens in May
- May Day and the start of the festival season. 1 May is a public holiday with a big domestic-travel weekend. Cultural festivals restart in Tirana, Berat and Gjirokastër through the month.
- Museums switch to summer hours. Castles and museums typically extend opening hours from spring. The changeover date varies by site — confirm on the day.
