Albania month by month

Pick a month to see the weather, what's open and which cities suit it best. Each month links to city guides and to the Albania news calendar for holidays and closures.

Winter in Albania

Albania in December

Best for festive city breaks

December is festive city-break season. Tirana fills Skanderbeg Square with lights and a Christmas market, coastal days hover near 14°C, and the Alps get their first proper snow. Prices stay low except over New Year, when Tirana and the mountain villages book out.

Albania in January

Best for budget city breaks and snow

January is a quiet, often lower-cost time for an Albania city break. Expect cool, wet lowlands and possible snow or ice on northern mountain roads. Plan museums and cafés alongside outdoor sightseeing, not a beach holiday, and check official conditions before travelling beyond the main routes.

Albania in February

Best for city culture and flexible winter plans

February is still low season in much of Albania, with cool coastal weather and possible snow in the mountains. Tirana and Shkodër offer indoor culture when rain changes plans. Carnival programmes vary by year; verify any dates with the municipality before booking. This is a better month for cities than swimming.

Spring in Albania

Albania in March

Best for quiet culture and blossom

March is early shoulder season. Coastal and central Albania warm to about 16°C, citrus and almond blossom appear in the south, and prices stay low. It is excellent for cities, canyons and photography, but the sea is still cold and high trails remain under snow.

Albania in April

Best for green landscapes and value

April is one of Albania's best value months. Days hit 19–20°C, the countryside is at its greenest, UNESCO towns are quiet and the Riviera reopens without crowds. The sea is still cool at about 16°C, so treat April as a hiking, driving and sightseeing month.

Albania in May

Best all-round month

May is arguably Albania's best all-round month. Coastal days reach 24°C, the sea warms to about 19°C by late May, the Theth–Valbona hike usually opens, and prices are still well below July. You get summer conditions without summer crowds.

Summer in Albania

Albania in June

Best for beaches before the peak

June opens the beach season properly. Coastal days average 29°C, the Ionian reaches about 23°C, and daylight stretches to nearly 15 hours. Prices are below the July–August peak and beaches still have space midweek, which makes June the best month for a swimming holiday without the crush.

Albania in July

Best for swimming and festivals

July is peak summer: 32°C on the coast, a 25°C sea, almost no rain and busy beaches. It is superb for swimming, boat trips and festivals if you book ahead. To avoid the crush, sleep away from Ksamil, sightsee before 10:00 and spend the hottest days in the Alps.

Albania in August

Best for warmest sea, worst for crowds

August is Albania's busiest and most expensive month. The sea peaks near 26°C, days sit at 32–33°C, and the Riviera plus diaspora returns fill every beach town. It is a great classic beach holiday if you book months ahead — and a frustrating month for spontaneous travel.

Autumn in Albania

Albania in September

Best combination of sea, trails and value

September gives you August's sea with a fraction of the crowds. Coastal days average 28°C, the water holds around 24°C, prices fall after the first week and hiking conditions turn ideal. For most travellers it is the single best month for a combined beach and mountain trip.

Albania in October

Best for cities, food and autumn colour

October is Albania's best city-break month. Days average 23°C on the coast, tour groups are gone, hotel prices fall back to shoulder rates and the hills turn gold. Early October still allows swimming at about 21°C; by the end of the month plan around culture, food and hiking instead.

Albania in November

Best for city culture and low prices

November is the last mild month and the wettest of the year. Coastal days reach about 18°C, Tirana 16°C, and rain arrives in long fronts. It suits museum-heavy city trips, food and the Independence Day celebrations on 28 November — not beaches or mountain hiking.
