Shkodër & Theth in September: Best Month for Alps Hiking

September is arguably the best month for the Albanian Alps. Trails are clear, afternoons are cooler than in midsummer, the light is golden and the busiest hiking weeks are behind you.

Is September a good time for Theth?

Yes. Weather is usually stable for much of the month, though storms become more likely later. Guesthouses begin closing in October, so September is the last reliably easy month. Overview: Albania in September.

Hiking

The Theth–Valbona hike is at its best now. Start early, carry water and a warm layer — the pass is much colder than the valley. Return via the Koman Lake ferry; confirm late-season sailing times in advance.

Shkodër

Warm, relaxed and ideal for a night before or after the mountains. See Rozafa Castle, the Marubi museum and the lake. Guides: things to do in Shkodër, where to stay in Shkodër.

Theth

Grunas waterfall, the Blue Eye of Theth and village walks — see things to do in Theth.
