Tirana Airport to Durrës

From
Tirana Airport (TIA)

Durrës is the closest proper beach city to the airport and Albania's main port, with ferries to Italy. The drive is short — under an hour outside peak season — which makes it a popular first or last night for people on tight flight schedules.

There is no direct public bus from the airport to most Albanian towns. The usual public-transport pattern is: airport bus into Tirana, then an intercity bus or furgon (shared minibus) from the relevant Tirana terminal.

The route itself

  • • The road is motorway-standard almost all the way (SH2 then the Tirana–Durrës highway).
  • • In July and August the final stretch into the beach strip can be slow on weekend afternoons.
  • • Golem and Qerret, the quieter sandy beaches south of Durrës, are 10–15 minutes further on.

Arrival tips

  • • If you want sand rather than city, ask for Golem or Qerret rather than central Durrës.
  • • The port, the Roman amphitheatre and the beach strip are three separate areas — tell your driver which one.

Landing late at night?

Late arrivals are fine: the road is well lit and busy, and Durrës hotels are used to guests arriving after midnight from delayed flights.
