Best Time to Visit Albania in 2027: Month-by-Month Guide
Weather, sea temperature, crowds and prices for every month of 2027 — and the exact weeks to book for beaches, hiking, road trips and low-season value.
The short answer: late May to mid-June, and all of September. Warm sea, open mountain roads, half the crowds of August and noticeably lower prices.
The longer answer depends entirely on what you came for. Albania is really three countries — a Mediterranean coast, a hot inland plain, and an alpine north — and their best seasons don't overlap.

January
Cold and quiet. Tirana 4–12 °C, coast 6–14 °C, mountains under snow. Cheapest month of the year; hotels on the coast largely closed. Good for city breaks, Ottoman towns and thermal baths. More on January

Similar, slightly brighter. Snow is at its best in the north, and the Theth road is normally closed. Berat and Gjirokastër are atmospheric and empty. More on February

The turn. Almond blossom, 12–18 °C by month's end, green everywhere. Sea still too cold to swim (14 °C). Excellent for hiking the low hills and for cities. Prices remain low.
April
One of the best-value months. 15–21 °C, wildflowers across Llogara and the Vjosa valley, cities comfortable. Coastal businesses begin opening late in the month. Sea 16 °C — brave only. High-mountain trails still snowbound.
May
Arguably the finest month overall. 20–26 °C, sea warming to 20 °C by month's end, everything open, crowds minimal, prices moderate. Perfect for road trips. The Theth road usually reopens.
June
The sweet spot for a beach trip. 26–31 °C, sea 22–24 °C, long days, mountains open for the Theth–Valbona crossing. Prices climb through the month; the first two weeks are the value window.
July
Hot and busy. 30–35 °C, inland Berat and Gjirokastër hit 38 °C at midday, sea 25 °C. Every beach club open, every festival running, every price at its peak. Book accommodation and cars months ahead.
August
Peak of everything — heat, crowds and prices. Albanian diaspora returns home, so the coast is at its most crowded in the second and third weeks. 32–37 °C, sea 26–27 °C, warmest swimming of the year. Go if August is your only option; go early or late in the month if you can choose. More on August
September
The connoisseur's month. Sea at its warmest-feeling 25–26 °C, air a comfortable 26–30 °C, crowds gone after the first week, prices down 20–40%. Mountain hiking is at its best — stable weather, clear air. If you can only travel once, come now.
October
Underrated. 20–25 °C, sea still swimmable at 22 °C early in the month, autumn colour in the north, harvest and olive season, near-empty ruins. Some coastal restaurants close after mid-month. Excellent for road trips and photography. More on October

Wet and quiet. 12–18 °C, the rainiest month on the coast. Cities and food are the reason to come; beaches are shut. Prices are at their lowest.
December
Festive in Tirana — Christmas markets, New Year fireworks on Skanderbeg Square, ski season starting in the north. Cold, 5–14 °C, short days. More on December

Ionian water (Himara, Dhërmi, Ksamil) runs a degree or two cooler and much clearer than the Adriatic (Durrës, Golem, Velipojë).
When to go for hiking
The Albanian Alps have a genuine season. Mid-June to early October is the window for the Theth–Valbona pass, the Peaks of the Balkans route and Mount Korab. Outside it, snow blocks the pass and guesthouses close.
Best hiking weather: September. Stable, clear, cool mornings, no thunderstorms.
When to go for a road trip
May and late September/October. Roads are dry, the Llogara Pass is clear, temperatures are comfortable in the car, and you can park in Berat and Gjirokastër without circling.
